Electrolysis works by inserting a fine probe into the hair follicle. An electrical current is applied creating heat or a chemical reaction that destroys the hair bulb. Once the hair bulb is destroyed, the hair will not grow back.

Electrolysis is the only FDA and AMA approved method for permanent hair removal. Electrolysis destroys the hair bulb so the hair cannot grow back.
Electrolysis has been around since 1875 when Charles Michel invented it to treat a patient with ingrown eyelashes. Of course, since then the equipment has undergone several changes allowing the use of faster methods. I use Apilus technology which delivers the appropiate amount of energy in order to achieve safe and permanent hair removal.
All hair types and hair colors can use electrolysis. Blonde, red, white and gray hair can be treated as well as dark hair. Electrolysis targets the hair root, unlike laser that relies on the melanin in the hair making laser ineffective for treating light hair color.
Some medical conditions will exclude you from electrolysis. Some of these include a pacemaker, hepatitis, defibrillator, cancer, cochlear implant, pregnancy or breast feeding. It is important to come in for an initial consultation so we can go over your medical history. Consultations are free. Come in and get all your questions answered.
To prepare for electrolysis, let hair grow to tweeze length. Once we start the electrolysis journey, do not wax or tweeze your hair. Stay hydrated. Drink water in the week prior to appointment. Hydrated skin will give you better results and heal faster. Come with clean skin. No makeup, deodorant or creams on the treatment area on the day of appointment.
Do not touch, pick or scratch treated area. No makeup for 24 hours. No sun tanning or tanning beds for 24 hours. No swimming or hot tubs for 24 hours. Remember the follicle is open so we don't want to contaminate it. Keep the area clean with a mild astringent like witch hazel.
Most common side effects include tenderness, redness and swelling. This will vary with each individual. You can use a cold pack to help reduce swelling. Before you leave I will cataphoresis the area which will help reduce the redness.
The number of total treatments will vary from person to person and area to area. The secret to successful electrolysis is catching the hair in its growth phase known as the anagen phase. This will be explained at your consultation and we encourage you to ask questions. Electrolysis is a process, not a one and done, but the end results are worth it.
